Seeking an edgy eBook cover design for an adult fiction literary novel based on a true story of a forensic dentist's abduction, torture and cover up by the Irish Mafia in 1970's Boston. This is a story that took thirty years for the author to summon up the courage tell.
The crux of the book's setting is mid 1970's Boston, Massachusetts, amid Irish mafia rule. Thematic elements are fear, execution of masterminded crimes and murders, torture, mob ruled prison, dentistry, forensic dentistry during its advent, and pain.
Think Whitey Bulger, Irish mobsters, dentists working in prisons, and respected and much revered rulers - not sloppy or stupid criminals or thugs.
The cover should be obvious, gripping and easily identified when it is displayed as the size of a postage stamp. We like the idea of a close up of a young, caucasian, muscular man and his bare chest (leaned back as if handcuffed to a chair tipped back at a 45 degree angle) and being cut vertically from top to bottom by an unidentified caucasian male's hand with a dagger/knife from sternum to navel. Blood, sweat, heat. He has a full black hood covering his entire head.Victim ideally has no shoes or socks and the floor is concrete. Medical scrub pants for bottoms. Torture on a metal chair in a warehouse. It should not be too busy, too campy, or too heavy handed.
The author likes the idea of having the title in red. Main color suggestions for the envisioned cover are: silver, grey, black and red.
The novel has a male protagonist in his early thirties. And an antagonist in his late forties.
Ideally, vitim should have
Any cover that features people should show the top half (waist up) of one young, Caucasian man. Think fresh out of dental school at Tufts.
The cover should not be suggestive of sex. Victim should not be female.
Other elements that might work, but not all together, would be classic mafia images, Boston Harbor, South Boston, dank warehouse interior, cement, brick or cinder block walls.
Zig Zag cut, knife halfway down with blood. Bottom of sternum to navel.
Ebook cover art with white or very light backgrounds can seem to disappear against the white Amazon.com background. Adding a very narrow (3-4 pixel) border in medium gray will define the boundaries of the cover.
Notes: Please incorporate the book title (Mark of the Mob) at the top and the author's name (Dr. William Galbreth) centered near the bottom.
