Design a cover for the refreshed book, “What on Earth Am I Here For? The Purpose Driven Life” by author Rick Warren The creative challenge here is to provide a fresh look-and-feel to a NYT bestselling book currently celebrating its 10th anniversary while maintaining a visual connection to the current product. The image of the tree and its roots is a key visual metaphor and should be strongly considered when building the design. Also the main title will now have a first read of "WHAT ON EARTH AM I HERE FOR?" whereas it was the sub-title in the original book. Caution needs to be exercised here. The world knows this product as "THE PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE." So you will need to think through exactly how the relationship between title and sub-title will play out in the final design. It's also important to note that the purpose of this redesign to make it more relevant and interesting to a younger audience. The "Purpose Driven Life" brand has sold over 32 million copies of various iterations. Zondervan will be refreshing the content of this book and rebranding to target the millennial generation. The winning cover will direct the branding exercise of the entire line of products which may include additional books in both print and ebook format, church and small group curricula, and mobile apps. VERY IMPORTANT—THE BRAND IMAGE: The existing "Purpose Driven Life" cover centers on the image of a tree. This image is the brand icon that we will continue to use. Key parts of the tree that MUST be incorporated into the brand image are the roots as it ties into the content of the book. THE TITLE: The title ("What on Earth Am I Here For?") is rebrand from the previous title, "Purpose Driven Life". Since the subtitle of "What on Earth Am I Here For?" is "Purpose Driven Life," the placement and design should honor this heritage. We are open to the experimentation of the dynamic of how the title and subtitle are presented for reading.

CRITICAL ELEMENTS • Dimensions: 6-inches wide x 9-inches high • You only need to design the front cover • TITLE: What on Earth Am I Here For? • SUBTITLE: The Purpose Driven Life • BYLINE: Rick Warren • TREE & ROOTS: Please use an image of a tree, incorporate roots if possible. We have supplied an iconic tree image that you can use, it was used on the previous cover image, so it will make a nice thematic connection. • STOCK IMAGES: DO NOT use stock images. In the majority of cases the licensing is non-transferrable. Please use original art, illustrations, or photography you own the license to. If we see stock image watermarks we will eliminate the design. • ONE IMAGE PER CONCEPT: If you intend to upload multiple renderings of your design, please just include them in the one image you submit. If you have a concept design with multiple small variations (like type placement, different color schemes, varying element placement, etc.) please lay them out in a single image and upload that as your submission. This way we can rate your *concept* without having multiple nearly identical submissions in our pile that are hard to tell apart (and hard to pick the winner from). • 2D IMAGES PREFERRED: Also, we will generally only rate the flat 2D image of the cover you've provided. Additional 3D images are pretty, but they don't always provide the best view of all the design elements. We want to see just the design itself with all the elements in proper balance and perspective, tilting, and shading can skew that. • DON'T BE DERIVATIVE: Please remember, we want a fresh, contemporary design that is recognizable as being related to the former Purpose Driven Life title, but we don't want it to look like the original work. • CREATE AN INFORMED DESIGN: We have attached a sample of the existing book interior. It's also available at: http://media.zondervan.com/media/samples/pdf/9780310205715_samptxt.pdf Please review this sample as it will give you some idea of the contents of the book and may help inspire your design. (Note that while the contest reward money is guaranteed to go to a winner, this does not guarantee that the winning design will be used for the book packaging unchanged.
