Eddison Wordplay is a startup based in London at a pre-launch stage. Our brand aims to showcase literary art with visual creativity by giving life, through illustrated artwork, to our original thought-provoking one-liners, all written by our founder, Robert Eddison, who is a journalist, playwright and free-thinker. He has written over 36,000 one-liners (aphorisms) on over 150 categories, making him the world’s leading aphorist. Eddison Wordplay uses Robert's aphorisms to create books, educational books and resources for children as well as merchandise for our soon-to-be-launched website.
Qual a sua visão?
We would like you to create designs to illustrate our aphorisms (one-liners). There is a list of fifty original one-liners attached, that will make up one quarter of Robert's next book (published imminently). We'd like for you to illustrate one (or more!) of these aphorisms for the book. Please feel free to illustrate as many aphorisms as you like. It gives us a real thrill to see your creative ideas elevate Robert's incredible words. As one of Robert's aphorisms reads, 'Pleasure shared is pleasure doubled'. The goal is to create an illustration that brings Robert’s one-liners to life. We’re hoping for an easy-to-read illustration that also rocks people's minds! The artwork should reflect, speak, reinforce and enhance the words whilst not swamping them or detracting from them. The design should also echo the words in an emotional sense. You should be able to portray the feelings and emotions felt behind the aphorism within the design, giving the design more depth. Our brand favours conceptual art with a touch of surrealism and abstract expressionism. Conceptual art ensures that all aspects of the design come from a source: the concept, and in this case, the concept comes from the one-liner. Surrealism and abstract expressionism leave room for you to decide if you would like to create a similar style. The artwork must be, first and foremost, thought provoking as well as bold, quirky and witty. It should be simple in a way that reflects the economic nature of Robert’s aphorisms. Just as each word is carefully selected to pack a punch, so should every line of the illustration. It should be completely original and in black and white, with shades of grey if needed. The design should be accompanied by clear, easy-to-read text included within the design. The pages of the book will fit the following dimensions: 20cm x 12cm. You should leave a safety margin of 1.5cm from all sides of the page (please see attached document). Summary of Guidelines: - The designs must incorporate the words - The words must be clear and easy to read - The design should compliment the words but not swamp them - The design should convey the essence of the one-liner - The design should be engaging - The design size should be within the book's margin (see attached) - The design must be original and in black and white, with shades of grey if needed - ONLY designs for the aphorisms in the list provided If you would like an explanation or further thoughts on any of your chosen aphorisms please let us know - we'd be happy to provide you with some exploratory notes as a launchpad for your design. Our brand values favour designs that are bold, witty and thought-provoking. We target all people (aged 15-60, but mainly from 16-35), who are interested in art, language, fashion and homewares. Please see two of the illustrations that have already been selected for the book. Please use these to give you an idea for our taste, but don't let them corset your own creativity - we're looking for original, exciting, unique artworks. PLEASE NOTE: We will be purchasing multiple illustrations so please feel free to create designs to accompany as many aphorisms as you'd like! www.ewordplay.com
