Looking for a modern, web 2.0 type logo for a new startup science website. Targeted towards all science amateurs and professionals.
Chromosome
"Chromosomes are organized structures of DNA and proteins that are found in cells. A chromosome is a singular piece of DNA, which contains many genes, regulatory elements and other nucleotide sequences."
Chromosome (http://www.chromosome.com) is a science based website in development. It will cover all areas of science such as physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy.etc. It will have news, quizes, general knowledge, photo and image galleries and articles.
I'm looking for a somewhat fun, but not too childish logo. Logos (and designs) that I like are the likes of:
http://www.plastic.com
http://www.37signals.com
http://www.newscientist.com
Feel free to experiment with logo and background colours, as I'm wide open. Just let your creative juices run wild.
Regarding mascots, I dont really like them. I prefer stylised icons such as the one at plastic.com. Maybe an abstract version of something science related such as atoms, a double helix .etc.
I like smooth lines an curved edges over straight harsh lines.
Now and again I dont mind a gradient. Not a big fan, but it combined nicely with the deisgn such as http://www.skype.com it can look really well.
Hope that gives you enough to go on.
- web 2.0
- rounded edges
- fresh
- colourful
- simplified, stylised icon
- swooping lines across the logo
- too much detail
- too professional looking
