Cloud City Dev
A young, hip, and hungry Ruby/Rails development shop building prototypes and MVPs (minimum viable product) for San Francisco and Silicon Valley start-ups (and start-ups to be). While professional and very good at delivering what our clients need, we are not in the slightest bit corporate.
We obsessively keep up with they latest and greatest technologies and use them as a competitive advantage to build awesome things. We are very much part of the "less is more movement" and think everything should be done simpler.
This is my view walking home every day: http://www.google.com/images?q=sutr…ower%20fog. While it may not be as iconic as the Golden Gate Bridge to outsiders, the shape is very distinctive (almost hints at Burning Man, which is another big thing for SFiscans) and recognizable to locals.
And this is the inspiration for the company name: http://www.headlineshirts.net/cloud…shirt.html I am not looking for an overt Star Wars reference in a logo, but if a little subtle one slipped in there, I wouldn't mind.
Serial entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley/San Francisco who are always trying to build the next big thing. Very up on social media (Web 3.0), the latest business crazes, and the happenings of the tech world.
Our branding will fit the tower rising out of the clouds as the masthead of the website - I need the logo version of that.
I really like how http://thoughtbot.com/ has a very identifiable logo that they can tweak for different formats and sizes, even down to the favicon size.
I will likely commission more work adapting the winning logo across our branding - such as a new website. I understand that it is additional work to adapt the branding to different sizes, I am looking for something with a clear enough identity I can see how that will be done.
While I want it to be recognizable as Sutro, maybe a direct translation to a logo is tough. Experiment and be creative - is it easier and more iconic if you ax the middle leg and make it a silhouette, or does it work better in detail and sketchy? I'm betting I'll select chic and clean, but I am trying 99designs to see some a range of design directions.
I've attached a rough ugly sketch of the portion of the tower I think important.
Also there is zipfile from another designer with some good ideas in them (fully paid for), but nothing that quite settled on what I was looking for. I think the vector work of the tower is to detailed/complicated/literal for this project.
