Spacemonster Interactive is a Sydney based creative / interactive development studio. We predominantly focus on building bespoke interactive experiences. These typically involve either touch screen interactives, data visualisations, interactive art, mobile applications, virtual reality, augmented reality or web development. Our clients are usually large companies or organizations and range from museums and cultural institutions to advertising, corporate and automotive clients.

The name ‘Spacemonster Interactive’ was picked because: - It’s a unique and memorable name. - It’s playfulness. - Relatable to technology. - Somewhat mysterious Keeping in mind the type of work we do, our business name and our clients when picking a logo style, I would suggest going for a balance between simplicity, playfulness and sophistication. Try not to make it too cartoony. Based on the designs that have been submitted to date what has been working quite well is using a fairly muted colour scheme, or a muted colour scheme with a single accent colour on limited element/s. There should be something tangible in the logo that instils “Spacemonster Interactive”, so avoid going extremely abstract, some kind of simple iconography could work quite nicely, but it’s really up to the designer how they want to tackle this. The logo will need to have the following versions: * Iconography and wordmark. ** Stacked ** Horizontal * Just the iconography / graphic element. * Simplified Monochromatic version. UPDATE: 25th March Thank you to everyone for the designs submitted to date. I just wanted to send everyone an update with some additional direction. Some details in the initial brief were left fairly open, as I wanted to give everyone a chance to experiment, however now that the contest has been running for 2 days it’s time to provide some extra detail on what’s working well. Playfulness vs Sophistication Striking the right balance between playfulness and sophistication is key. In the brief it states the logo should be more on the sophistication end of the spectrum. For example if there is a literal monster in the logo it shouldn’t be too cutesy or cartoony as it’s just not the right look for the clients we serve, it also shouldn’t look scary or evil. Instead I’d suggest going for something mysterious, cryptic or ominous (#61 and #87 do a good job at this). Simplification and Shapes If you take a look at the highest starred logos in this contest to date they all convey meaning in a simple and elegant matter. They are typically quite simple in the shapes they use and only use a few colors (less is more). What this does is allows the logo to stand on its own for typical use (website, business card, letterhead, etc) but also allow it to be recognizable and convey meaning at small sizes such as an app icon, or website 32 pixel favicon. (#73 does a good job of this). Wordless version In the brief it lists a few versions that will need to be provided for the final logo. With regards to “Iconography and wordmark” and “Just the iconography / graphic element” while I don’t expect everyone to produce these versions at this stage, just keep in mind that the Iconography / graphic element needs to be able to stand on its own and still look like a logo (not just a nice illustration / graphic). Again #73 does a good job at this. Colour Scheme Also most of the top starred logos use a fairly muted colour scheme, or a muted colour scheme with a single accent colour on limited element/s. I’m finding that the really colourful logos are just looking too cartoony and simply don’t convey the right message given the target audience. Negative Space While not at all a requirement, an interesting observation is a fair few of the top starred logos have been making good use of negative space (eg: #87, #73, #39) Additionally you can view our showreel here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEo6Vigkr-0 Please ignore the triangle logo, it’s nothing more than a placeholder.
