Nashville International Center for Empowerment
The Nashville International Center for Empowerment is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, community-based organization that provides direct social services and educational programs to refugees and immigrants in Middle Tennessee. Its mission is to empower new Americans-- regardless of nationality and station-- to achieve security and stability, and facilitate their successful integration into American society.
The Nashville International Center for Empowerment began (as the Sudanese Community & Women's Service Center) in 2005 with a former Sudanese refugee's mission to educate Sudanese females who had been ignored by their country's educational system. Since then, demand for services has skyrocketed; since its inception, the Nashville International Center for Empowerment has served over 6,000 refugee and immigrant clients from over 40 nations.
The short-term goal of the Nashville International Center for Empowerment is to be a primary support for refugees and immigrants during their first years in the United States while they work to learn the English language and secure stable employment. The long-term goal of the Nashville International Center for Empowerment is to eliminate the root causes of poverty within the refugee and immigrant community and create a new precedent of upward socioeconomic mobility and integration into the greater Nashville community.

Our organization is in the midst of a major maturation process and you could be part of it. Davidson County, Tennessee, ranks 16th among the Nation's 3,000 counties in refugees per capita and a good percentage of those folks come to our doors for assistance. We have just (today!) officially changed our name from the Sudanese Community and Women's Service Center to the Nashville International Center for Empowerment and need a new look that represents the work we're doing and will continue to do. Last year we served over a thousand clients from over 40 nations through programs such as English Language Education, Employment Preparation and Placement, Social Adjustment and Integration, Health Awareness, Youth Development, Food and Clothing Distribution, etc. etc. We are looking for a logo that appeals to our clients as well as to our community and potential funders. The fact that we're on the cheap side of the payment scale does not reflect on our appreciation and respect for the work of a designer, but rather it's a result of our abysmally low budget. If we had a bit more money, we would have gladly and readily invested it in this project. What we can offer is our loyalty: if you do good work with us now, we will strive to keep our relationship with you alive and mutually beneficial.
Read who we're about and go with it. The logo will be the launch-point for the branding of our organization (including all-new letterhead, business cards, promotional materials and web presence.) We want to emphasize our service-oriented nature and multiculturalism and REALLY de-emphasize our name's rather weak and unfortunate acronym (even though we actually are quite NICE).
