JumpstartLab / RubyJumpstart
JumpstartLab is a small technical training company focusing on introducing "normal" people to the world of computer programming. It's geared toward professionals and managers, especially in the non-profit space, who want a better understanding of how custom software can enhance their business and processes.
Customers sign up for a two day weekend course that introduces them to the fundamentals of programming and gets them working on real projects right away. It's a "Jumpstart" because it's quick, and it's a "Lab" because we learn by doing.
I personally have some background in graphic design though decided to experiment with 99Designs for some fresh ideas. I love to deliver constructive criticism, so know that if you submit a decent design I will give lots of feedback! I'd also be happy to answer any questions.
Professional adults aged 25-50 who are business fluent, but not really technical people.
The design must be in Illustrator vector format (AI or EPS)
The design should include two variations: "JumpstartLab" and "RubyJumpstart"
The design must be "modular" to some extent. The workshops will all have custom titles, and the logo must work for each. So the official company name is "JumpstartLab", but the first workshop is "RubyJumpstart" as we'll be introducing the Ruby programming language. The "Jumpstart" has to be able to be recombined with these leading subject words. Other examples down the road are "RailsJumpstart" and "FacebookJumpstart". Only "RubyJumpstart" and "JumpstartLab" are required for this contest!
One concept I thought about is a jumping stick figure separating the "Jumpstart" from the "Lab". Then when the logo is remixed to "RubyJumpstart", the character could move to between "Ruby" and "Jumpstart". Maybe that's too cliche?
The logo needs to "work" in two color. Gradients, shadows, and multi-color variations would be awesome, but it needs to be able to reduce down for future uses on t-shirts and other lo-fidelity media.
Other random thoughts...don't let the "Lab" tempt you into some chemistry glassware -- this is computer programming, hah. I like simple, clean looks. Some kind of character/illustration would be pretty cool, something that's unique enough to get recognized on it's own would be amazing.
