Blue Collared
During one of the worst recessions in decades, the U.S.' 36 million blue collar workers lack the type of jobs website that white collar professionals enjoy in LinkedIn, TheLadders, or even Monster.com. Blue Collared will be the website that fills that gap and connects blue collar workers to blue collar jobs, other blue collar workers, and information about blue collar careers.
The target audience works some sort of job with their hands -- plumbers, builders, auto mechanics, welders, electricians, truckers, etc. -- so they do not spend their time sitting in front of a computer during the day. (They do so at night). They will span all age groups and races, but the main target audience is 18-35 and largely male. Few of these workers will have been to college, though many have received years of additional technical training beyond high school.
The goal of this project is to produce a logo for Blue Collared, a new blue collar jobs website that will provide job posts, personal connections, and career information. The goal for the company will be to become _the_ destination where workers manage their blue collar or skilled trade career.
A few general notes:
* The logo should not be overly intricate as it will be used primarily on the web. The winning design might simply use well thought out fonts and color combinations (think Facebook or TechCrunch).
* It is not a requirement that blue be a part of the logo, though it will likely be a part of the site's overall design scheme. Part of that design scheme will take cues from the logo you're designing.
* The logo can either incorporate the company name, or, be a stand alone design placed adjacent to a basic font version of the name.
A few inspirational images have been posted to help conjure up the type of designs and styles used in the blue collar world. For example, there's likely several logo opportunities using some of the blue collar name tags in these pictures (NOTE: I would really like to see at least someone try making a logo similar to the style of what's in NameTags.jpg) and potential ideas to be had seeing various shipping containers design or blue collar work in action.
Good luck! This project could potentially lead to additional work.
