Our market is in Charles Town, WV, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge, near the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers. Right now our logo is one that does not give our market any sense of "place." It could be any market, any where, in any town, USA.
We would like our logo to identify us with our town and one that ties us to this area. We would like an architectural element included - perhaps our local clock tower that sits atop our courthouse (although that is used in a number of other logos around town)..... or an outline of our town's "skyline" ....or the outline of Charles Washington Hall and it's adorning cupola (the building that will house our market starting in 2015)..... or some rendition of the Blue Ridge Mountains, or a rendering of the Shenandoah River. The logo does not have to include ALL these elements of course but we would like it to include at least one. And with it being a farmers market, we would like to see some fresh fruit/vegetables.
Also, we found that when we were looking at other logos, we really like the logos that bleed/break out of their shapes/boxes, and we also like ones that include a half-round shape (a broken circle) in conjunction with a rectangle. We don't want a logo that's too complicated or busy, or one that is too simple either. We do not like reverse type (white text on dark background) and the font needs to be readable when reproduced into a small ad or other advertisement, and needs to be reproduceable in B/W and grayscale.
We would like to incorporate animals into the logo as well - a chicken, cow, pig, lamb, or fish will work (those are all sold at our market), or any combination of those. We'd also like to see an egg and perhaps a bouquet flowers - ones you would see at a market.
