wikiHow (http://www.wikihow.com) is a wiki based how-to manual. Our mission is to build the world's largest, highest quality how-to manual.
We are a high-profile website. According to Quantcast, we are the 100th most popular site on the web. wikiHow is read by over 16 million unique visitors per month. If your logo is selected it will be seen by many, many people.
wikiHow is an information resource for others (people generally discover the site when they are searching on “how to” do something). However, it is also (and equally importantly) an open source project where people donate their time, as our large article repository is the result of the huge collaborative/collective effort of our very passionate community members.
We want our logo to appeal to two kinds of people:
(1) People who are interested in learning how to do things (how to articles range from crafts, cooking, & technology to relationship advice). We want our logo to be unique and recognizable so that these people remember our brand and come back next time they need “how to” help.
(2) We want to engage and encourage people who might be interested in participating as part of the community. Community members of wikiHow write articles, edit articles, and patrol the edits that are done across the site. They are extremely important to us!
Use a warm, earthy palette, no extremely bright colors.
We want the logo/brand to feel: welcoming, universal, giving, large, worldly, friendly, fresh, helpful, and collaborative. The winning logo will evoke these brand adjectives.
We want something memorable, up-to-date, and unique – please do not post ideas that have been done all over the web already.
We'd love it if you created a new logo based on our brand vs. just styling the words "wikiHow". However, if you chose to do a wordmark logo, we require that it have some creative elements that make it truly distinct or interesting.
Note: We are currently redesigning the look and feel of the site, so you should not key off of the current look and feel or colors.
