Queer Ontario
Queer Ontario is a new community-based activist group headquartered in Toronto, Ontario established to provide a queer voice and maintain the integrity of the queer liberationist perspective that was championed by CLGRO (Coalition for Lesbian and Gay Rights in Ontario) http://clgro.org
CLGRO dissolved in 2009 after 35 years of "working towards feminism and bisexual, lesbian and gay liberation by engaging in public struggle for full human rights, by promoting diversity and access, and by strengthening cooperative networks for lesbian, gay and bisexual activism."
Queer Ontario intends to carry forward the legacy of CLGRO using a new model of virtual (e.g. web and social-media) organizing, sharing and activism on a province-wide basis.
Mission: Queer Ontario is a provincially based network of individuals who are members of the gender and sexually diverse populations and their allies committed to liberationist and sex positive principles that focus on questioning, challenging and seeking reform to social norms and laws that control queer people through public education, political action, promoting access and diversity and coalition building.
Our values are: Liberationism, Sex Postive, Gender Identity, and Safety. A PDF summarizing these values has been attached to this brief.
Queer people are members of the gender and sexually diverse populations that include but are not limited to 2-spirited, agender, ambigender, androgyne, asexual, bigender, bisexual, cross-dresser, drag queen, drag king, fluid, gay, gender fluid, genderqueer, intergender, intersex, intrasex, kink, lesbian, non-gendered, omnisexual, pangender, pansexual, polysexual, transgender, transsexual, and transvestite individuals.
We seek a logo that speaks to our values, can be used during a launch event in January 2010, and will become the brand associated with a provincial queer liberation perspective through us on our print and electronic publications.
- representation of a "queer organization" without stereotypical or marginalizing imagery
- emphasis if possible that this is a provincial organization
- avoid graphic elements that represent only a subset of queer communities (e.g. representing only "gay")
- we are looking for a long term relationship with a graphic designer
