Como Cjanac começou a jornada do(a) design de logotipos

I'm a student at Stanford University. I work for BASES, the largest entrepreneurial group on campus. We're organizing a huge engineering competition called the 'Product Design Showcase'. We are looking for engineers to submit prototypes from project classes (such as iPhone apps or medical devices). At the end of the year, a panel of venture capitalists will award prizes to the best engineering projects.
Conte para a gente quem é você e quem é seu público alvo
We have two main target audiences:
1) Engineers. We want to persuade as many Stanford engineers as possible to submit projects to BASES. There must be an engineering motif. We want to look as legitimate and professional as possible to attract this kind of talent.
2) The rest of the undergraduate population. We want a large turnout of Stanford students during spring quarter to come and attend the showcase event. These are people who won't have submitted prototypes. The logo must appeal to more than engineering instincts -it needs to be sleek and snazzy enough to attract people who simply want to stop by and see cool stuff.
-A cardboard box with the word 'Stanford' printed on one side and perhaps the word 'BASES' printed on the other side (the choice is up to you, but at least put Stanford on one of the sides).
-A stylized, sleek looking 'Product Showcase' text floats above the box
-A hydraulic robotic arm emerges from the box at a rightward angle and bends to the left at its mechanical joint
-The robotic arm ends in a wide pincer that looks like |_______________|
-The pincer is holding/squeezing the 'Product Showcase' text that floats above the box.
As I said in my target audience paragraph, we want this logo to look legit and professional. It needs to symbolize 'Stanford engineering and design' to attract engineers who will submit projects in the next few weeks. But it also needs to be sleek, hip and cool enough to attract casual attendees during the Spring who wish to be entertained at an all-campus event.
