Our target end users are Institutional (Banks, Hedge Funds, Investment Banks, etc) professionals who will expect an interface that feels familiar, uses professional constructs and terminology/symbology.
Our goal is to provide a modern design that, while adapting to current design trends, will feel familiar. Given the lack of user interface innovation in "professional" level tools, there are few positive concrete examples to give (but many negative we can point to).
The winning designer will ideally be familiar with financial and/or statistical presentation, terminology, interfaces and dashboards.
We'd expect to ultimately use D3.js, crossfilter (see below) and/or flot: where mocking interactive or charting elements we'd would like to keep with a style that will be within reach on the aforementioned frameworks.
A final note on style: This is *not* a trading application: no tickers, red/green flashing, loud or distracting UI elements etc.
