Lion and Mouse
We are preparing to launch a nonprofit that enables people to make micro-charitable donations with the “change” generated by retail transactions. Shoppers, young and old, wealthy and poor, will see our logo and simply tell the retailers to round up the bill and share the change. Retailers will collect the change, and our organization will distribute the funds based on a fully transparent and democratic process.
Typically making a contribution requires choosing the charity, writing a check, and taking other physical actions. But, simply rounding up the bill in retailers is a friction-less and simple way for everyone to be a philanthropist.
We want to create a process diagram that describes how the program works.
The name of our organization is based on the concept of a children’s fable called “The Lion and The Mouse”. The fable’s moral is: No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. We chose this name (Lion and Mouse) because the moral of the story rings true to our beliefs. We think that even the smallest act of kindness can effect change in the world. Our goal is to unlock millions of small acts of kindness that can easily occur on a daily basis – by way of donating spare change.

The diagram will be put in our marketing materials (brochure/poster/website) for everyone to see. Ideally, the diagram would convey the entire process and be simple for people of all backgrounds, ages, and occupations to understand.
We want the diagram to look nice, simple, clean and professional (think web 2.0).
We want excellent use of bright color, text layout, and fonts. Fonts used should be standard or easily obtainable.
The diagram should have good use of white space and shouldn’t be text-heavy.
The size of the diagram should fit on an 8.5x11’’ paper.
All clip-art or images should be consistent in style and available for use without further licensing or fees.
The diagram must include the following:
• A diverse group of people shopping at retailers. They can look wealthy and poor, young and old. (This shows that everyone can participate in the program).
• The shoppers saying a key phrase such as “Round it up,” that lets the retailer know they want to participate.
• Reference to small amounts of change that people donate through retailers.
• Show large amounts of money being collected from small donations.
• Customers receiving a receipt from the retailer useful for tax purposes.
• The retailers collecting the donated change and distributing it to our organization
• Our organization distributing the funds to national or local charities with complete transparency. Reports will be provided to retailers and customers through our website on a real-time basis.
