===KEY DESIGN POINTS FOR SITE===
*We would like a modern update for bedbugs.net. Something light, refreshing, and minimalistic but with a refreshing brightness to the design. Words like ZEN, Modern, Refreshing, and Social, and Minimal come to mind.
For a basic, general design idea with the layout and simple soft color scheme, look at eartheasy.com. Mind you, we do not want an exact copy of the colors and stuff, but the layout idea they have is an excellent fit.
*You have complete freedom with the colors. You DO NOT have to base the colors on the current bedbugs.net logo (blue and red). We can change the logo colors to match the new design. So don't at all use the same red and white color scheme we currently have on bedbugs.net.
*This initial design will (for now) include only 5 pages, drawn from different sections of the site. We will work one on one with the designer after the first scheme is done.
*Since there are multiple designs, we will FOCUS on the main site homepage and then look at the registry.bedbugs.net homepage during the second round as well.
BedBugs.Net Homepage, BedBugs.Net Content Page, registry.bedbugs.com homepage, registry.bedbugs.com content page, ecommerce store page home (will be using prestashop, but a custom design)
The total design for the entire site is likely to be 10-14 pages and we'll negotiate something once the winner has been chosen and the initial 5 design pages are done and the first 5 designs are done.
After the main design, we will deal with the winner 1 on 1 for additional designs to fill out some of the other pages -- likely 5-10 pages, pending.
registry.net CITY INFO pages, registry.bedbugs.net submission pages,registry.bedbugs.net search page, registry.net country page, statpage, Blog Home Page, Blog Content Page, Category Pages
===PAGE 1: SITE HOME PAGE DESIGN===
*I like the design of eartheasy.com for the main site homepage. This will be a page that incorporates the flow of information from many sources -- blog articles, features articles (not on the blog but on the static site itself), forum post feeds, a few product feeds from the website's ecommerce store, and information from the sites' bed bug registry, and feeds from the pest control directory (not yet set up)store.
*Since this page will be the "Face" of the entire website and show feeds from all the various distinct sections, it's the most important page on the website.
=GENERAL DESIGN IDEAS=
*You can check out our current design here, which is a blog: bedbugs.net. We want a static layoutout now, however, and will be having a distinct blog section later on.
*the Homepage must be able to effectively show different feeds from disparate sections of the entire website:
Blog Articles, Featured Guides (these are static pages on the main site), Pest Control Directory Search Box(see pestworld.org for an example), Bed Bug Registry Feeds, Community Feeds (new topics from forum, blog comments, registry comments), Bed Bug News Feeds
*EARTHEASY.COM: take a good look at the homepage. We want something similar layoutwise. It wont' be identical as our site is completely different and will have more "feeds" coming in from various sections of the site. But it's a good base layout design to follow. We'd like the general layout of the columns, the featured page, blog articles, featured guides, featured products, and the top and sub menu section, all to be loosely based on this design. You will have yoru own color scheme, but it gives you a layout base to start off from.
*Color scheme to be something light and modern. Light blues, dark blues, whites, light oranges, that sort of thing. We leave it up to you. Our website is about bedbugs, so keep that color scheme in mind.
*PESTWORLD.ORG: This is another website layout to draw some inspiration from, specifically for some of the content pages. We prefer the EARTHEASY style of homepage layout, so don't base it directly on PESTWORLD.ORG for the homepage. But we like they way the have their sidebar.
It will have a main menu near the top with:
SHOP | GUIDES | BED BUG REGISTRY | BLOG| FORUM |
Each page will bring up a submenu as well.
So if we are in the GUIDES section, we would have as submenu
SHOP | *GUIDES* | BED BUG REGISTRY | BLOG | FORUM |
Learning Center| Bed Bug Treatments | Travel Tips | Resources | F&Q |Pictures
1. Top featured section that has a graphic menu Learning Center on 2/3 of the left side of the screen. This would and the 1/3. You can see bedbugs.net
Check out eartheasy (dot com). Also check out bedbugcentral (dot com). So a sort of large horizontal featured section that has a Learning Center graphic menu with a list of some of the more popular topics 10 or so. The last 1/3 right hand side of this section will feature a search bar and feed from our bed bug registry. See below for more information about this.
Bed Bug Report Section:
The Bed Bug Report Section showing a minuture google map with points for bed bug infestations for the bottom half or top half of the box. Also showing the most recent reports. We will include a search box in the other part of the box --see the search form on registry.bedbugs.net for a rough example. Of course you will integrate it into the design and redesign the search form so it fits the layout.
2. Below the top horizontal strip as mentioned above will be a vertical strip our Store verticle strip
3. A Featured Blog Articles Section (verticle column)
5. Featured New Section. Could share the same column as the Featured blog articles section, just the lower half and have it's own header.
4. A Latest Guides Section (verticle column). Ideally in the column beside the Blog Articles column
5. A Community Section that shows mini feeds of:
Recent Forum Posts -- topic + author name
Recent Blog Comments -- topic + author name + truncated message (first 10 or so words). This would be a whole subsection, the lowest section of the homepage.
7. Footer Area -- a section of the major menu sections.
Other Features on homepage
*a searchbar incorporated somewhere near the top tha searches the site
*the inclusion of our menu
*potentially we will have a shopping cart section/login/account near the top right
*social share icon top and bottom
*mailing list box
===PAGE 2: CONTENT PAGE FOR MAIN SITE===
Idea for layout. 2 columns, a content column which is the left column and attached to the very end of the left column, a mini verticle navigation menu that contains all the article categories in that topic. See http://www.pestworld (DOT ORG)/all-things-bed-bugs/history-of-bed-bugs/where-bed-bugs-are-found
A lot of design freedom here. General idea is to maybe have a two column layout, with the content section to be the left column and the information feeds to be on the right hand column, which functions as a sort of sidebar which can feature information, info boxes, dynamic feeds, or search bar
=LEFT (MAIN) CONTENT SECTION=
One source example for SORT of idea what i'm looking for in the layout for content page. NOt the same color scheme though http://www.pestworld.(DOT ORG)pest-guide/bed-bugs/bed-bugs/
And the very far left we have a mini sidebar menu attached to every content page.
The top of the content section should feature a mini in-content page navigation menu at or near the top of the page that links to the different subheading ON THAT PAGE. Note this is not the same as the left sidebar navigation.
Something like this: http://www.pestworld (DOT ORG)/pest-guide/bed-bugs/bed-bugs, but not a pest profile but more like an outline with links that go to different subsections of the article.
Same footer with menu links as the homepage to be featured on the content page of the site
Find a Pest Professional sidebar box (like http://www.pestworld (DOT ORG )pest-guide/birds/pigeons and like http://www.pestworld (DOT ORG)/all-things-bed-bugs/bed-bug-prevention/tips-for-the-office/)
Search for Bedbugs sidebar box
Bed Bug Store sidebar box (shows a vertical listing of 5-10 products from our store). See: http://eartheasy (DOT COM) /live_natpest_control.htm#h
===PAGE 3: BEDBUGS.NET REGISTRY HOMEPAGE===
We have a very very basic design here on the current site. You can view our current site here: registry.bedbugs.net
You have freedom to redesign this completely. Emphasis should be on the Search/Report Bed Bugs search box. you can put it in a separate box or wherever. But it shoudld be one of the main things the user sees. The map and the points should also be highly visible.
Key sections that SHOULD be on your design for this site.
-various location maps short cuts: North America, UK, Australia/New Zealand, SE Asia, Europe, Asia
-Search/Report Bed Bugs
-Google Map with points
-Latest Reports by City
-Latest Reports by Hotel Chain
-Download Our Free Android/Iphone App! (App curently being developed, want a banner or image that will direct people to download the app).
-Bed Bugs SOS Section that has a a navigation list of some bed bug articles. My idea here is to have a box style graphic with a list of key article titles. We'll add more ourselves, but just for filler now:
*How to Inspect a Hotel Room for Bed Bugs
*I've Found Bed Bugs in My Hotel. Now What?
*How to Make a Hotel Claim
*Landlords and Bed Bugs
-Social Share Bar with facebook page emphasis
-Facebook Page Widget
PAGE 4: REGISTRY.BEDBUGS.NET content page<---to be discussed with winner
A complete redesign of our basic page: http://registry.bedbugs.net/Spain/V…el-Florida put into the same color scheme and layout as the other pages on the site.
We'll discuss this later on with the winner
PAGE 5: BedBugs.net main page City Page<---to be discussed with winner
This will be given later on. Don't want to lose focus by having too many page designs at once
