We are just looking for a homepage design.
1. Logo in left corner.
2. Login section in top right corner.
• See TutorVista.com for example of top right login section.
Homepage Main Menu
1. Main menu will be a horizontal menu of four text options underneath the top section. The menu items should be easy to read but not so big/bright that they take attention away from the main header area beneath them.
For examples, see the horizontal main menu on guru.com (My Account, Hire, Manage, etc.) or tutorvista.com (Home, How It Works, Online Tutoring, etc.) or 99designs.com subpages like http://99designs.com/buttons-icons (launch a project, browse projects, how it works, help).
2. Text for menu items should be left justified (from left to right): Get started for free, How it works, Pricing, FAQs
Homepae Main Header Area
The main header area’s job is to introduce the site to new visitors and give them a basic idea of how it works and why they should join. It should be easy to read, informative and make them want to explore the site further.
We want the main header area to have a similar layout to compete.com, mint.com or 99designs.com, with a large heading, some text and links, and a video intro/overview. We like simple and clean.
For examples of main header areas that we like, see mint.com, 99designs.com, compete.com or visiblegains.com.
“Find the online tutor who matches your needs and start learning today!”
“Need help passing a course? Want an “A”? Concerned about who tutors you? TutorWeb helps you choose, from our many tutors, the one who is just right for you. Then come to your tutor’s convenient online classroom and start working together live, 1 on 1! This is THE best way to learn.
Links under text:
“Watch the short video” “Learn more”
“Get started for free >” (this should be a button)
Homepage Under Header Sections
The purpose of these sections is to further explain the site’s benefits and expand on the information in the main header area.
We are flexible as to how these sections are arranged on the page. They can either be arranged 1 on top of the next like visiblegains.com or 99designs.com subpages (http://99designs.com/web-design), or they can be arranged in columns like mint.com (Stay Safe and Secure, Get Ready for Taxes, Feeling the Love) or tutorvista.com (Get the TutorVista Advantage!, News, Features).
Here are the sections in order of importance:
How it works
The “How it works” section will summarize our tutoring process in a few easy steps. Each step should have a relevant image to the left of it, and be a link to the corresponding section on our “How it works” page. Here are the steps for this section: Choose your tutor, Work with your tutor 1-on-1, Pay for your session.
Meet Dr. Tom
The “Meet Dr. Tom” section will introduce Dr. Tom Hancock, the site’s co-founder. This section will have a picture of Tom and then a few sentences or text bullet points, followed by a link to Tom’s section in our About Us page.
The “News” section will include logos of different news organizations and websites that cover TutorWeb. Each logo will link directly to the news article in questions (either on our site or elsewhere). See the “In the News” section on elance.com as an example.
The “For Tutors” section will provide a brief overview of how the site can benefit people who would like to offer tutoring services, plus give them a sign up link.
The “Browse Tutors” section will allows parents/students to browse tutor profiles and find tutors that may be a good fit for their needs. This section will simply list major subjects that the site offers tutoring in. Parents/students will then be able to drill down from general subjects to more specific ones and see tutors offering teaching services in those areas. See the “Top Skills on Elance” section on elance.com as an example.
