Surf Canyon
Surf Canyon (http://www.surfcanyon.com) develops a browser add-on that helps people find stuff buried in the results on the major search engines by re-ranking "on the fly." Technically speaking, we develop real-time implicit personalization.
The currently supported search engines are Google, Yahoo! and Craigslist, although we'd like to get it working with the new Bing at some point. In additional to re-ranking search results, users can customize the application to insert specific publisher content (NY Times, etc.) onto the search page, as well as real-time results (i.e. Twitter).
Our target audience is naturally early adopters of technology. The principal focus of the page is going to be to attract downloads. That being said, we'd also like a smooth navigation to pages for business development and the media.
Our current page is located at http://www.surfcanyon.com. We would like to keep the logo, however, everything else can be changed. We want it to be "cool!" We're posting this contest because you have a much better idea of what that is than do we.
The principal focus of the page is the download button. We would thus like to focus people's attention there.
The my.surfcanyon.com link, which is where people customize the downloaded application, should be prominent, too.
We'd like a box with testimonials to be somewhere on the page. We could also put a box with recent blog posts.
We would like the "template" of the home page to be able to be used for other pages, like "about us," "privacy," "blog," "FAQ," etc.
The video is optional. We'd like to know what people think about that. Also, would could have the video updated as well.
An area where we can promote features would be great. It could be on the home page or a separate page.
We generally do not like stock photos of people.
Here are some websites whose designs we think might be "cool":
