I need a layout designed for DNListings, which is a site that will aggregate domain auctions and listings from various venues and provide and easy way to browse and search them all in one place.
First of all, I had a logo designed for the site which you can find here: http://www.dndata.com/dnlistings.zip I like the concept behind the logo (the graphic with the "listings" and the magnifying glass) but I don't really like how it turned out, especially the font, so if you would like to use the concept of this logo but modify it or create your own version to fit your layout that's fine.
Also, I have a mockup of most of what the layout should contain which you can find here: http://www.dndata.com/dnlistingsmockup.gif It is a simple front-end I threw together while developing the back-end.
As you can see the main content area of the site is the actual listings, which contain domains names along with various stats, prices, etc in the columns. Each column heading is sortable, and there should be a pagination area above and below the listings.
On the left and right sides are various search options and filters.
As you can see across the top there are many different categories of domains that people can browse, and within each category they can browse Auctions, Drops, or Listings.
I also need a few more things added that aren't in the mockup. One is a login area (username, passworld, remember me checkbox and sign in) (I'm thinking maybe in the upper left area). Also I need options to get a permalink to the search results, subscribe to the results via RSS, and save the search.
Another ability I would like to add is for users to be able to "star" a listing (similar to gmail where you click a star icon and it will save it to your starred folder), only thing is I'm not sure where the star would fit in since I have the logo of the venue to the left of the domain, which seems to be the most logical place.
If you have any empty space that needs filling you could put a small "featured domains" section.
The design should fit 1024 width resolutions. I would like the listings area to have the widest possible width since some domains can be long.
As far as colors I am not set on anything. You can use the colors of the logo/mockup but I am definitely open to other colors and you are free to modify the logo as you wish. I would like the listings area to have a light background but other than that I am open to anything.
Please ask me if you have any other questions as this is my first layout contest.
Good luck to everyone!
- Fun, vibrant, web 2.0 style layout
- Should be clean and functional
- Audience will be mostly tech savvy people who buy and sell domains
- Bland, corporate looking page
