Vaarwijzer is a popular internet information service for yachtsmen and -women in the Netherlands. Specialised in training, trainingmaterial and information about boating education. However Vaarwijzer also consists of a database with more than 14.000 boats, more than 3.500 boating related products, 5.000 addresses of suppliers, more than 3.000 different engines and about 7.500 yachting related brands.
Vaarwijzer is setup as different "corners":
- searching the database "digitale boordgids"
- yachting education and learn to sail
- Vaarwijzer weblog
- e-commerce where one can order products through our webshop
We run a website, weblog, webshop and of course we tweet about all this and more ... Vaarwijzer consists of information about: boats and products, suppliers, training and maintenance.
We need a new modern design for our overall webportal at http://www.vaarwijzer.nl
As Vaarwijzer is a portal website with much information, the design should help to enclose this information and make it easy to navigate. The website should realy be inviting to look further and visit other parts of the website.
Language of all our activities is in Dutch. So keep in mind European preferences and considerations about webdesign.
yachtsmen and -women
professionals in the yachting industry
Dutch speaking people, mainly from Holland and Belgium
people from all ages, but mostly adult and both man and woman
Vaarwijzer exists already 10 years
We need the basic design or webtemplate for our Vaarwijzer portal website that will be hosted on http://www.vaarwijzer.nl.
Entries should design a new homepage and give impressions of how underlying pages could look.
The design should be attractive, have a pleasant modern look, but should also be simple to implement and fast to load. Easy to maintain and very flexible.
There is no style determined yet, only the Vaarwijzer logo and colours are given. You can download the logo in the original colours from this contest.
We favour a design that uses as many CSS and HTML style elements over a design that can only be achieved using many graphics. You have to comply with common webstandards (W3C).
Elements and graphics should be well documented and readily available. So for example if you choose to use some pictures or icons or other stock material, this should come from a library of material that offers other icons etc. and is also available for us when we want to extend the website.
The final website will be implemented using HTML, CSS and will run on classic ASP plus ASP.NET and thus is hosted on a Windows IIS platform.
You make the design, we will build the website.
